Faulkner Design Group strives to design healing spaces to comfort and heal those who enter hospice and palliative care settings. We believe these environments afford us the opportunity to create a place where many of the most nurturing characteristics come together to support the patient and families.
Among the most salient characteristics of our hospice and palliative care designs is connectivity to nature and the abundance of daylight. Exposure to the natural environment has a soothing effect, stimulates the mind, and enables a spiritual connection with life as patients and their families cope with the changes happening in their lives. Our spaces provide the backdrop for positive restoration and minimum external stimulation by regulating the ambient environment with calming colors and subtle patterns. We work closely with lighting consultants to accommodate the needs of the residents, practitioners, and caregivers as each has different needs and preferences, achieving intuitive controllability in terms of level, source, and location.

Tranquil Spaces
Our designs provide spaces for community and privacy throughout offering the same calming finishes for conversation, reflection, and grieving. Family rooms often serve as a hub between patient rooms and care stations. Furniture is designed and arranged for maximum flexibility for large family gatherings while also providing smaller respite spaces. These spaces provide the comforts of home often including full-sized kitchens. Other areas that provide a reprieve include sunrooms, playrooms for young children, lounges and outdoor gardens for patients, family, and staff. Spaces for music, massage and art therapy also play a vital role in stress relief and contribute to the healing environment.
Most importantly, patient centered care is achieved in all aspects of the design, operations, and functionality. FDG focuses on the quality of life that is directly impacted through each element of design fostering a comforting environment for each patience, resident, family member and caregiver.
