About the Design

Walking distance from the historic Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, Anthology of the Plaza is the innovative gateway adjoining the celebrated past of the surrounding area with a modern senior living scene through a detailed adaptive reuse building design. The structure was originally a five story commercial office building, each floor sectioned into office space with a 1980s design past its prime inside and out.

Location played an important role in the overall creation and design of this stunning adaptive reuse community. Despite the restrictive layout of the building, the development team was quick to acknowledge its great potential. The variety of premier walkable amenities near the community motivates residents to remain active and engaged, while the surrounding buildings and recreational facilities inspired the design of the community’s interiors and exteriors. Utilizing the existing structure’s deep building footprint challenged the design team’s approach to space planning as they aimed for consistency throughout, support of specific room functions, and maximizing the unmatched view. Designers successfully created a vibrant space that complements both the modernity of the amenities and the neighborhood’s history with a combination of classic and modern architecture, pulling from the Moorish architecture of Country Club Plaza. Anthology of the Plaza’s newfound design and unparalleled location creates a dynamic and lively atmosphere that fosters engagement and provides an essence of vitality to residents and staff alike.
