Architectural Designer

Position Description

The Architectural Designer reports to the Team Leader and serves as a key technical and design authority on interior and architectural projects. This role emphasizes advanced architectural documentation, technical design, constructability, and project coordination. The Architectural Designer is responsible for producing comprehensive construction documentation, ensuring compliance with building codes and FDG standards, and providing strategic design solutions. In collaboration with the Director of Architecture, this role plays an integral part in maintaining firm -wide BIM standards and drawing standards .

 

Key Responsibilities

  • The production of comprehensive construction documentation, including plans, sections, elevations, details, schedules, and technical drawings using Revit, AutoCAD, and other design software.

  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, coordinated, and executable, addressing constructability, technical compliance, and alignment with project and firm standards.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Architecture to maintain firm-wide BIM standards and drawing standards, ensuring consistency and quality across all projects.

  • Review and coordinate design details across disciplines, ensuring integration of architectural, interior, and MEP systems.

  • Conduct construction administration activities, including site visits, observations, and review of RFIs, submittals, and change orders.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior designers or interns when assigned, ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to design intent.

  • Contribute to strategic design problem-solving, offering innovative and buildable solutions that meet project, client, and FDG standards.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Design Directors, and consultants to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to FDG quality standards.

  • Monitor individual metrics regarding project performance and financial health, including analyzing reports, participating in monthly reviews, and ensuring budgets and profitability targets are met

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture or interior design from an accredited program.

  • 5+ years of architectural or interior design documentation experience, including producing full construction sets and coordinating technical documentation.

  • Licensed architect preferred but not required; demonstrated technical expertise required.

  • Proficiency in Revit required; AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and other construction documentation software preferred.

  • Expertise in constructability, architectural detailing, elevations, technical drawings, and building codes.

  • Proven ability to develop, maintain, and enforce BIM and drawing standards in collaboration with the Director of Architecture.

  • Experience in QC/QA of documentation for technical accuracy and constructability.

  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Optional leadership experience preferred: mentoring, reviewing work, and supporting professional development of junior staff.

  • Self-driven, solution-oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively with project teams.

  • Limited client-facing experience required; primarily for technical presentations or construction meetings.

  • Must have access to a vehicle and ability to travel to construction sites as needed.

  • Physically able to lift up to 25 lbs and work on-site when necessary; up to 10% travel nationwide
