Working with FDG, I’ve quickly picked up on the “work hard, play hard” mentality that creates the unique and desirable environment this company has built. Every day is a day to celebrate and every celebration blows your typical afternoon at work out of the water.
FDG likes to create an interesting and always changing atmosphere to keep the creative juices flowing and to inspire new ideas for the team. Most importantly, those at FDG value having fun whenever the opportunity arises.
A couple of things come to mind when I think about the activities I’ve participated in or, at the very least, have watched take place. The first instance that comes to mind is National Jelly Bean day! In honor of this holiday our brilliant manager of first impressions, Stephanie, decorated the counters with large bowls of colorful and quite delicious jelly beans.
Stephanie then pulled out the game of trickery: Bean-Boozled!
After spending some time separating out the some delicious and some despicable jelly beans by color into various containers and calling forth the players, the game was set. If you’re not familiar with the game Bean-Boozled, each player has to choose a jelly bean. The bean, though same in color, can be one of two flavors, one being something tasty and the other being something the furthest from delicious.
For our game, the flavors were as followed: Spoiled Milk or Coconut, Dead Fish or Strawberry Banana Smoothie, Rotten Egg or Buttered Popcorn, Toothpaste or Berry Blue, Barf or Peach, Canned Dog Food or Chocolate Pudding, Booger or Juicy Pear, Moldy Cheese or Caramel Corn, Stinky Socks or Tutti-Fruitti, and Lawn Clippings or Lime.
With the first spin of the board, the game began and a chorus of gagging from disgusted mouths mixed with the smacking of lips from happy individuals lifted into the air. Some players ran for the trash can while others stood simply chewing an every day jelly bean.
And the rotten luck didn’t stop there. Quite a few of the FDG team members suffered with each spin of the dial, receiving less than pleasing flavors each time. At the end of it all, the Dead Fish was named the worst flavor by far, most of the contestants spitting it out immediately and guzzling water to rid the taste from their mouths.
While I didn’t participate in this particular game (years of my sister handing me Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans from Harry Potter still ripe in my mind), the experience was enjoyable and quite amusing! Fortunately for me, things like this happen all the time at FDG such as Happy Hours (yes, it is as interesting as it sounds), Property Photoshoots, and a seemingly endless supply of food!
Coming up in the next few weeks, the office will be participating in Faulkner Fun Week, a week dedicated, well, to ourselves. We’ll be celebrating 27 years of designing environments that transform life! Each day, we’ll get to salute this incredible company with varying special treats for our amazing team members.
In past years, we’ve had the always delicious Steel City Pops brought in as well as photo booths, rounds of Whirlyball, and even sometimes monkeys dressed up in a little suit. Who wouldn’t love that? FDG is definitely the place to be for a celebration.
In the coming weeks, I’ll give you guys a behind the scenes look at what a true FDG celebration looks like!
If you want to know more, join me next week to see what FDG has cooking in their kitchen! (BONUS: I’m going to be posting an additional blog on Tuesday to catch up from last week! I’ve just been having so much fun, I forgot to share with everyone else!)
